Cross Cultural Journeys joins Travelers Against Plastic

TAP Campaign logoIt is no secret that we aim to provide our travelers with in-depth cultural experiences while making as little negative impact as possible on the social or environmental fabric of the places we visit. Let’s face it: the more you travel, the bigger your footprint is on the environment. One very visible face of that footprint is the number of plastic water bottles that travelers use and throw away, especially in less-developed countries where drinking tap water can be risky.

That’s why Cross Cultural Journeys has joined TAP (Travelers Against Plastic), a campaign to raise awareness of alternatives to bottled water and reduce the amount of plastic waste generated by travelers. “Globally 2.7 million tons of water bottle plastic is used annually,” says the TAP website.

Going forward, we will include information in all of our trip materials encouraging our travelers to pack their own refillable water bottle and a method for purifying tap water, such as the SteriPen, a battery-powered device that uses UV light technology to sterilize a liter of water in just 60 seconds. We will also offer refillable water bottles with all of our journeys for a small extra fee.

If you register by January 15, 2017 for our environmentally-themed journey How Cuba Went Green (April 27-May 6), we will include a beautiful refillable water bottle for free!
